Indication

Mid-summer fly fishing for trout in moving water

Instructions

  1. Tie a piece of black foam in the middle of  dry fly hook, size 16-24.

  2. Wrap a waist with thread, shaping a smaller head and longer bigger abdomen.

  3. Wind a few turns of black hackle at the waist, and whip finish on the waist.

  4. Shape the foam as my Farmington benefactor did: with the heat from a cigarette.

  5. Clip the hackle on the bottom to make it float flush in the film.

Doctor's notes

This fly imitates an unfortunate ant who has fallen in Mr Trout's stream. It's a good fly for after the mayflies have hatched, and the trout have switched to beetles, ants, etc.
